The application for the Morehead-Cain Class of 2025 opens on August 15! To give you a better idea of what the Program is like, we’re releasing a four-part series this fall on each of the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) experiences.
In your first summer as a Morehead-Cain, in the months following your high school graduation, you’ll embark on what might be the most challenging experience of your life to date: a multi-week Outdoor Leadership course.
Senam Adedze ’23 shares about her summer backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountain range with Outward Bound California. Here is her story!
During my entire 24-day trip, the terrain changed constantly. One day, we would hike through dense forests.
On another, we would clamber over rocks…
Followed by snow…
…and then even more snow!
Throughout the experience, we practiced different aspects of outdoor leadership, including learning to navigate using only a map and compass.
Not a day passed without jaw-dropping views!
We set up camp near ice-blue rivers, frozen over.
We swam in an icy glacier lake nestled between two mountains.
Reaching elevations of over 11,000 ft, sometimes we were literally above the clouds!
We finished up our trip by completing service in Yosemite National Park.
Thanks for following along with me on my Outdoor Leadership summer! — Senam Adedze ’23
