The Morehead-Cain supports scholars to study internationally, including traditional semester-abroad programs through Carolina. With funding from the Foundation, scholars have access to nearly 400 programs in more than seventy countries on every populated continent of the world.
Some scholars find spending a full semester abroad challenging. Commitments such as leadership roles, major course requirements, and athletics can get in the way. In those cases, scholars have the option to spend a summer abroad instead.
What have scholars done?
Scholars who have traveled the world to study would say the experience was life changing. When you’re pushing past your comfort zone, broadening your own horizons, and engaging with people you’d never have the opportunity to meet otherwise—how can you not come back changed? Read these stories of scholars study abroad experiences:
- Taking transatlantic security classes at the Brussels School of Governance
- Studying smart cities and sports culture in Spain
- Learning from the Olympic Games in London about international relations and political divides
“One of my most cherished experiences was studying abroad and just going to a place I never imagined I’d go to. That was all facilitated by the Morehead-Cain, which I’ll be forever be grateful.”
