The Morehead-Cain Foundation will invite twelve to fifteen current sophomores at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall to join the Morehead-Cain Program as scholars in the class of 2027.

The Sophomore Intake Initiative, launched last year, allows Morehead-Cain to build an additional entry point into the Program and expand its efforts to identify, invest in, and empower a community of dynamic, purpose-driven leaders. Selected scholars will have the opportunity to participate in summer enrichment programming, advising, Lovelace Fund for Discovery projects, and funded study abroad, as well as benefit from a robust alumni network.

Morehead-Cain seeks sophomores who demonstrate the four criteria of the Program: scholarship, leadership, moral force of character, and vigor. A Morehead-Cain Scholar seeks to “author a unique college experience and seize their education” at Carolina and beyond, according to Morehead-Cain President Chris Bradford.

“Our Sophomore Intake recognizes emerging leaders who have already demonstrated a positive impact at UNC–Chapel Hill, and to extend the transformational experience of the Morehead-Cain Program to even more exceptional students who will better our campus and world,” Bradford said.

Morehead-Cain seeks nominations of prospective scholars from a wide array of individuals on campus, including professors, department heads, teaching assistants, and staff of scholarship, service, extracurricular, and cultural programs. UNC–Chapel Hill faculty and staff who seek to nominate a sophomore to Morehead-Cain can reach out to Melanie Godinez-Cedillo ’22, project manager at Morehead-Cain.

Transfer students are eligible through partnerships with the North Carolina Community College System and UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

The nomination period will close on September 10, and all nominated candidates will be notified by Friday, September 13. The Sophomore Intake class for the Morehead-Cain Class of 2027 will be announced in November.
