Immediate Plans

To graduate in December, before pursuing justice-facing think tank research (and a visa).

After excessive switching, Helena finally earned a BA with highest distinction in global studies with honors, with minors in social and economic justice and creative writing. All her four years were bound to UNC’s radio station, WXYC 89.3FM, ultimately serving as manager after an (on brand) gap semester. In her senior year, she became an Agora and Zietlow Civic Engagement Fellow, a Phi Beta Kappa recipient, and a Buckley Public Service Scholar. Her passion for pedagogy drove three years teaching and chairing the Foreign Policy Association’s UNC lecture series, alongside poetry workshops and a writing residency for UNC’s Short Story machines. Her honors thesis explored alterglobalist and grassroots spaces as praxes of prefigurative resistance, informed by local volunteer work. She views her time at Carolina as a course in space- and place-making, with an interdisciplinary approach to community-building and advocacy.
