Montez joined the Foundation during the winter of 2018, bringing with him several years of educational experience and a deep commitment to supporting scholars in all stages of their journeys.

Montez works closely with students as they navigate the many different aspects of the Program; from offering feedback during the Summer Enrichment planning process to helping them explore various Discovery Fund opportunities.

A first-generation college student, Montez has always had a special place in his heart for Carolina, even as a child growing up in Kentucky. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from UNC–Chapel Hill and, after a few years away, returned to Chapel Hill for his master’s in school counseling. Prior to joining the Foundation, Montez worked in the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Undergraduate Admissions and served as a K–12 educator.

A builder, counselor, and developer inside and outside of the Foundation, Montez enjoys creating furniture and woodworking, coaching youth sports, and volunteering with his church. He and his family are happy to call Durham home.
