Katy brings nearly two decades of experience to Morehead-Cain in communications, education, and research. As scholarship program assistant, Katy supports all departments, with a focus on data management.
Katy has held numerous positions at UNC-Chapel Hill, including the public service program World View, the Center for the Study of the American South, and the University of North Carolina Press.
A Carolina alumna, Katy graduated from the University with a joint degree in anthropology and religious studies. Within these disciplines, she is particularly interested in learning about what makes people tick.
Katy is passionate about working with students of all ages. Soon after graduating from UNC–Chapel Hill, Katy completed a year of service with AmeriCorps VISTA, working to incorporate community service curricula into public schools in Georgia. She later completed a master’s degree in Southern studies at the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture, where her research topics ranged from Southern cuisine to the role of race and ethnicity in country music.
When not busy with the activities of her three children, Katy enjoys spending time reading epic novels, listening to live music, traveling, gardening, and cheering on Tar Heel basketball. She is grateful every day for the opportunity to walk across Carolina’s beautiful campus to work at the Morehead-Cain Foundation.
