After wearing several different hats in admissions and recruiting at Mars Hill College, David Greer found a home in development. He served on the development teams at Mars Hill and at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation before returning to Chapel Hill in 2012 as the director of development for the UNC-Chapel Hill Institute for the Environment.

David joined the Foundation as its development officer, coordinating individual gifts to the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund, and became director of development in September 2016. He was named Morehead-Cain’s senior director of community advancement in 2024.

David earned a bachelor of science in geology from Millsaps College, where he was a member of the basketball team. As a basketball player and fan, David provides some excellent insight for the Tar Heel loyal at Morehead-Cain. He also received a master of science in geology from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he wrote his thesis on the Chesapeake Bay Salt Marsh. Upon special request, some old photos of David in camouflage waders trudging through muddy waters may even rise to the surface.
