Dr. John Rose has joined the Morehead-Cain Foundation as faculty director for Dialogue and Discourse. In addition to his work with Morehead-Cain, Rose will serve as professor of the practice at the School of Civic Life and Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Rose comes to the University from Duke University, where he was the associate director of the Civil Discourse Project and an instructor in the Kenan Institute for Ethics. At Duke, he also taught courses in happiness and human flourishing, Christian ethics, conservatism, and political polarization. His research focuses on virtue ethics and Christian theology. His work was profiled in the Wall Street Journal and Duke Magazine.

Rose will spearhead the Dialogue and Discourse experience launched last year for Morehead-Cain Scholars. The initiative is designed to enhance scholars’ ability to listen, discuss, and engage in contemporary issues.

Rose will also advise the Food for Thought breakfast and conversation series. The scholar-led series brings a diverse range of thought leaders across fields and industries to engage with scholars. Through these interactions, scholars gain valuable insights and further develop their leadership and critical-thinking abilities.

By advising scholars on these key initiatives, Rose will “strengthen Morehead-Cain’s leadership development engine through transformational learning experiences,” said Morehead-Cain President Chris Bradford.

“John’s expertise and commitment to fostering meaningful discussion on the issues of our time will help our scholars navigate and lead in a complex world,” Bradford said. “We’re fortunate to be joined by a leader in the fields of ethics, polarization, and effective discourse.”

Rose holds a bachelor’s in religion from Wabash College, a master of theological studies from Duke Divinity School, and a PhD in Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary.
