Two Morehead-Cain Scholars were honored with student scholarships at the 45th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture and Awards Ceremony on January 20.
Addison Truzy ’27 received the Harvey Beech Scholarship, named after the first Black graduate from the UNC School of Law and awarded to students based on their contributions to campus life. A political science and advertising and public relations double major, Addison is a legal intern at the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, works on student housing reform through the UNC Student Government Executive Branch, and serves as a legal and policy fellow at Whitestone Legislative Advocacy.
Hannah Hayes ’28 received the MLK UNC Student Scholarship in recognition of the scholar’s academic excellence and commitment to advancing civil and human rights in her community. A political science major, Hannah serves as an attorney for Carolina Mock Trial and is a member of UNC Students Demand Action. The scholar joined the Morehead-Cain Program in fall 2025 through the Sophomore Selection process.
The ceremony was part of UNC–Chapel Hill’s Martin Luther King Jr. Week of Celebration and featured a keynote address by Cheri Beasley, former chief justice for the North Carolina Supreme Court.
