Daniel Malawsky ’20 has received dual scholarships to pursue a master’s and a doctoral degree in England.

The biostatistics and mathematics double major will first study biological sciences with a focus on medical genetics research at the University of Cambridge’s Churchill College through a Churchill Scholarship.

Following the one-year master’s program, Daniel will continue his studies at the Wellcome Sanger Institute in Hixton, England, through a PhD program funded by a Gates Cambridge Scholarship.

Daniel said he hopes to “reduce global inequities in research and expand knowledge of genetic diseases among understudied populations” in South Asian countries through his work.

UNC’s Office of Distinguished Scholarships announced the award last month.
