Nominating Schools and Programs

Students outside of North Carolina, Canada, or the United Kingdom must attend a nominating school or affiliate program to be considered for the Morehead-Cain.

What if I attend a non-nominating school outside of North Carolina, Canada, or the U.K.?

Students at schools or in programs that are not currently nominating partners can still be nominated for the Morehead-Cain through the Admissions Referral Program (ARP). All students who apply to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by the October 15 Early Action deadline are considered for the Morehead-Cain.

Additionally, students who participate in one of Morehead-Cain’s affiliate programs are eligible to apply. In the process of applying, you would choose your nominee type accordingly and will need to email us to have your high school temporarily added.

What is an affiliate program?

Affiliate programs are those that serve students from various high schools across the country and world through semester, gap, or summer-long leadership opportunities. Every year, each program is eligible to nominate students who demonstrate our selection criteria.

We seek to develop relationships with affiliate organizations on a case-by-case basis. Here are some of the things we’re looking for:

  • We’re looking for programs that are highly selective in identifying participants who demonstrate strong leadership, character, and scholarship for their program.
  • We’re looking for partners whose students attend (or have attended) some of our official nominating schools.
  • We’re interested in programs that produce tangible outcomes to further develop a student’s leadership skills and character traits.

Current affiliate programs include:
Academic Success Program (ASP)
Baton Rouge Youth Coalition
Bezos Scholars Program
Boys and Girls Clubs of America
Carolina Youth Coalition
Charlotte Unity Project
College Advising Corps
Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund
District of Columbia Public Schools (DC Public Schools)
