How do I nominate a student?

Convene a nominating committee, which may consist of counselors, school administrators, and other faculty members, and make your selections based on the Morehead-Cain selection criteria.

Things you should know:
  • All high schools in North Carolina are eligible to nominate students for the Morehead-Cain. The number of nominees from each North Carolina school is determined by the size of the senior class:

    • Graduating Class Size
    • Up to 199
    • 200–399
    • 400–499
    • 500+

    • Nominees
    • 2 nominees
    • 3 nominees
    • 4 nominees
    • 5 nominees
  • Please notify your nominees no later than September 28. Once selection is made, it’s the school’s responsibility to notify the nominees of their nominations.

    You do not need to submit the names of your nominees to us; they will indicate that they’re school nominees on their Morehead-Cain applications. You’ll have a chance to verify that status.

The deadline to apply for candidates attending school in North Carolina is October 15, 2018

All counselor-provided materials (school report form, letter of recommendation, etc.) are also due by this date.

Please note: Admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a separate process from the Morehead-Cain application. All forms and correspondence dealing with admission to Carolina should go directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

The final deadline to apply for admission to Carolina is January 15, 2019.
