Summer Enrichment Program

Empowering Scholars

For nearly 50 years, the Summer Enrichment Program has been the true centerpiece of the Morehead-Cain experience. This first-of-its-kind program provides four distinct summers that accelerate scholars’ potential and empower them to learn more about themselves and the world.

The newest of the four summers, Civic Collaboration, was introduced in 2019 after three years of piloting—and it continues to evolve and grow. In 2021–2022, Civic Collaboration scholar teams participated in a five-day training session hosted by Entrepreneurs by Design to expose them to “equity-focused, human-centered design thinking processes.” The course, which took place in May 2022,  was built to prepare the students for managing diverse projects and working as a team.

This year also saw the largest number of Civic Collaboration host organizations. The 15 host organizations included state government departments, city government offices, community nonprofit organizations, and statewide philanthropic organizations in 14 cities across ten states. Four Morehead-Cain Alumni served as Civic Collaboration hosts and six others helped facilitate placements. Seven host organizations renewed their partnerships, which speaks to the scholars’ performance and supports the sustainability of the Program.
