To conduct research focused on human metabolic physiology with the NIH Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Program

Sheidy Rios-Vazquez earned a BA with distinction in exercise and sport science, with minors in chemistry and medical anthropology. At Carolina, she served as president of the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) chapter, co-director of UNC Flourish, and an expedition leader with APPLES. She volunteered as a Spanish interpreter at SHAC and UNC Hospitals, improving access to healthcare for Spanish-speaking patients. Passionate about research, she contributed to federally funded studies in the STAR Heel Performance Laboratory, analyzing motor coding and gaze behavior, and interned with the Health Equity Research Lab at Cambridge Health Alliance, evaluating digital inclusion programs for low-income individuals with disabilities. To conclude her journey at Carolina, Sheidy was selected as a speaker for La Conferencia 2025, hosted by the Carolina Latinx Center, where she presented on the intersection of Latinx women’s health, immigrant communities, and empowerment through education.
