Ruta earned a BA with highest distinction in chemistry, with a minor in Spanish for the health professions. She performed undergraduate research in the Pielak Lab, co-authoring several publications about the protection of dried protein structure and activity. She was also a three-year co-chair of the Chemistry Department’s undergraduate student advisory group and a small group leader at the Newman Catholic Student Center. Ruta greatly enjoyed her time on the UNC Club Tennis team, serving as vice-president and representing Carolina at the 2023 National Championship. A member of Honors Carolina, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received several departmental chemistry awards, including the American Chemical Society Undergraduate Award, recognizing excellence in coursework and research.
