Michael earned a BA with highest distinction in English, a BA in comparative literature with highest honors, a BS in psychology, and a minor in environmental science and studies. After three years spent as an undergraduate research assistant across various labs, Michael pivoted his focus from the sciences to the arts, writing his thesis, “Blackwater Elegy,” in poetry. He was the president of UNC’s chapter of Epsilon Tau Pi, a service fraternity for Eagle Scouts, and a co-founder of several clubs devoted to bettering local education and student mental health.
