To work as a research assistant under the Cancer Research Training Award at the National Institutes of Health.

Maya earned a BA with highest honors and highest distinction in chemistry, with minors in biology and medicine, literature, and culture. During her time as an undergraduate research assistant in the Haar Lab in the Department of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, she defended an honors thesis on the protein signaling cascades involved in cardiac disease. She was co-founder and president of STEM Sisters to create mentorship opportunities for female-identifying youth in Chapel Hill and was president of Sigma Rho Lambda, UNC’s Jewish sorority. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the Venable Medal—the Chancellor’s Award presented to the top senior majoring in chemistry based on academic work, character, and contributions to the community. During her time at Carolina, she developed an excitement for running and biking.
