Makayla Alleson Key

Makayla earned a BA with highest distinction in sociology, with minors in education and women’s and gender studies. She was a dedicated staff member of The Daily Tar Heel as a photo desk staffer from 2020 to 2023 and the DEI coordinator during the 2023–24 academic year. Makayla was initiated into the Theta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in the spring of 2022 and served as chapter president during the 2023–24 academic year. She was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education, Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society of Sociology, and Phi Beta Kappa. Makayla received the Irene F. Lee Chancellor’s Award presented annually to the woman of the senior class who is judged most outstanding in leadership, character, and scholarship.
