Studying in Almaty, Kazakhstan, as part of UNC Russian Flagship Program’s capstone year.

Jasper earned a BA with highest distinction in global studies, interdisciplinary studies (critical political economy), and Chinese. He received highest honors and the Douglas Eyre Award for best honors thesis in global studies for his work on cultural heritage and the political economy of development in the Aseer Province of southern Saudi Arabia. While at UNC, he was the editor-in-chief of Jasūr Magazine, an interpreter for Refugee Community Partnership, an internationally ranked Arabic-language debater, and a member of UNC’s Russian Flagship Program. He spent a semester abroad in Taipei as a Phillips Ambassador, where he worked as a legal researcher and studied the history of settler colonialism in Taiwan. Prior to starting at Carolina, he spent a gap year living in Amman, Jordan, and traveling in the Levant.
