A Record-Breaking Morehead-Cain Day of Giving
In November 2024, the Morehead-Cain community came together to create a historic Day of Giving. More than 1,500 gifts poured in by the end of the Day, with 45 percent of alumni stepping up across generations to support the Program.
Leading the charge in engagement were the classes of 2008, 1989, and 2002, who achieved participation rates of 82, 73, and 69 percent, respectively.
We also celebrate the senior class of 2025, whose 95 percent participation rate reflects both their gratitude for the Program and their commitment to supporting future scholars.
Your generosity fuels the experiences that shape principled, visionary leaders, from global travel and internships to the lifelong connections that define the Morehead-Cain family.
Thank you for your partnership in making the Day of Giving a success!

Dear friends,
As I reflect on the past year, I’m deeply grateful for your dedication to our shared mission of empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
In 2024–2025, our community truly showed its strength: close to 1,900 alumni made a gift to the Program; countless mentors shared their expertise; and dozens of alumni offered transformative internships and summer enrichment opportunities.
Thanks to your leadership, we achieved a remarkable 55 percent alumni participation, our ninth consecutive year above the 50 percent mark and our fifth straight year at or above 55 percent. While alumni engagement in higher ed faces headwinds, Morehead-Cain stands apart in its generosity and commitment.
We also welcomed 78 first-time donors and reconnected with 13 donors returning to support the Program after a decade away. Equally meaningful is our 85 percent donor retention rate, well above national averages and proof of the deep connections our community shares.
Our momentum was further fueled by the November Day of Giving, which saw 45 percent alumni engagement by the close of the day. That response (unheard of in our field) speaks volumes about the passion that moves our Program forward.
Your generosity made possible a second year of the Dialogue and Discourse program to help deepen critical conversations among juniors and seniors; the second class of Sophomore Selection scholars; and the third year of the Food for Thought speaker series and celebrating Impact Educators throughout the country.
In March 2025, the Morehead‑Cain Symposium in Pine Mountain, Georgia, brought together alumni and scholars from six decades, encouraged to “step in, step up, and step beyond.” Participants engaged in conversations and interactive exercises around community building, body mindfulness, improv comedy as a tool for leadership, and personal virtue.
All year long, your investment in time and treasure has connected generations and helped to support dynamic, purpose-driven leaders.
As I step down from the MCSF board this year, I am honored to pass the torch to Katherine Kirby Dunleavy ’91, whose dedication exemplifies Morehead-Cain values and whose leadership I know will guide us boldly forward.
Morehead‑Cain depends not merely on sustaining our programs, but it compels us to innovate, challenge ourselves, and aim ever higher. We recognize that charitable giving is deeply personal, and we’re profoundly grateful for your trust and partnership on this journey.
Thank you for being the heart and courage of our community.
With heartfelt appreciation,

“I gave to Morehead-Cain for three main reasons: gratitude, the future, and pride. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for my experience as a scholar, and giving is one of many ways to channel my thanks.”
