Criteria
To be eligible you must be:
- a competitive applicant to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- in the 12th grade and on track to graduate in the spring of 2010.
- unmarried and without children.
To be selected you must demonstrate:
Moral Force of Character
It's the bedrock of our culture. Integrity. Empathy. Humility. Maturity. Generosity.
Scholarship
It's not so much the student we look for, it's the scholar. The one who's about more than grades and test scores. The one for whom learning is an appetite rather than a means to an end.
Physical Vigor
It's as simple as a demonstrated commitment to an active lifestyle. Captain of the team isn't necessary. The team isn't necessary, for that matter. But the dedication to fitness and physical activity is.
Leadership
It may not be what you think.
We're not looking for a title. We're not looking for popularity. We're not even looking for a role. We're looking for courage and action.
Morehead-Cains initiate. They act and they impact. They influence and they inspire.
Financial need is not considered in making nominations or selections. The Morehead-Cain is conferred solely on the basis of merit.
