SEVEN. Our Theme.

In the fall of 2008, the Morehead-Cain introduced Seven, a program that fosters the network of Morehead-Cain Alumni and Scholars and that honors the memory of one of its dearest members. Here's the premise. While on campus, every Morehead-Cain Scholar has the opportunity to get to know Scholars from seven classes: the three classes above them, their own class, and the three classes below them. In a larger sense, the idea of Seven is to promote the interaction and networking of Morehead-Cains across generations. No one enjoyed or encouraged this interaction more than Eve Carson '08. At its heart, Seven captures not only Eve's name, but her insatiable enthusiasm for getting to know other members of her larger Morehead-Cain family—and helping them get to know each other.

We have adopted Seven as the theme of this year's Forum, and so we encourage you: Come. Meet some new Moreheads. Enrich your life through one another. Experience and take advantage of this family and all of its collective—remarkable—wit, wisdom, and spirit.

A Word from the Forum’s Founder, Brad Ives ’86

Dear Fellow Morehead-Cain Alumni:

I want to encourage each of you to attend the fifth Morehead Alumni Forum.  As the founder of the Forum, I’m thrilled to see how it has grown from an idea into a bit of an institution.

The original idea for the Forum was to create an event where we could meet each other while exchanging stories and ideas.  That concept is how the Forum works.  In four prior events, we have been able to hear great stories from a leading chronicler of the Civil Rights movement, Congressmen, Wall Street veterans, professional philosophers, stay-at-home moms, doctors, lawyers and the head of Habitat for Humanity.

In true Morehead-Cain fashion, the Forum is not about one-ups-man-ship or resume recitation.  Instead, it’s about telling the inspirational story of success – or failure.  It’s about recharging our intellectual batteries and rediscovering a bit of the idealistic high school senior we once were.  It’s also about spending time with old friends and making new connections.  And, of course, there will be barbecue and Carolina Blue skies.

Lastly, please know that the Morehead-Cain family always includes our spouses and significant others.  The Forum is no exception.  Their wisdom, wit and well-honed patience will enhance our discussions – and may even temper our egos!

I look forward to seeing you this fall.

Meet our Co-Chairs:

Rick Callaway ’71 and Monica Parham ’90 have graciously donated their valuable time to serve as co-chairs of the 2009 Forum.  This is Rick’s sophomore season as co-chair, having served as co-chair of the very successful 2006 Forum with Pam Hartley ’93. Monica, as chair of class agents, was responsible for getting many of you back to Chapel Hill for both the 2003 and 2006 Forums.  We are grateful to them both for sharing of their time and expertise on behalf of the Foundation and the Forum.
