Forbes has named Ricky Hurtado one of the country’s best young leaders in education.
Hurtado received the honor alongside Elaine Townsend Utin. Together, the pair directs the North Carolina Scholar’s Latinx Initiative at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. NC SLI’s mission is to create pathways to educational, professional, and civic engagement opportunities for a new generation of Latinx leaders.
Forbes’ writer Justin Conklin writes that Hurtado and Townsend Utin are among the rising stars who have “torn a page out of the entrepreneurial playbook and are creating new businesses, nonprofits, and organizations… to open up new markets and access to lifelong, quality educational experiences.”
Hurtado joins Hadley Heath Manning ’10 (law and policy, 2016), Alex Lim ’10 (venture capital, 2017), and James Ellsmoor ’16 (energy, 2017) as recent alumni named to a Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
