Wake County Public School System Superintendent Jim Merrill is the state’s top school administrator—again.
The North Carolina Association of School Administrators and the North Carolina School Boards Association has named Merrill the state’s Superintendent of the Year. It’s a historic honor; Merrill is the first superintendent in the state to receive the distinction twice.
In 2005, he was named North Carolina Superintendent of the Year for his work leading the Alamance-Burlington School System.
Wake County is home to the sixteenth largest school district in the nation, with more than 160,000 students at 177 schools. Merrill took over as superintendent in 2013.
