Uncle Mot made an investment in the education of promising young leaders at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon his death in 1965, he bequeathed the majority of his estate to the Foundation, and nearly 3,000 scholars have benefited from his generosity and vision.
Since 2007, the John Motley Morehead Society has honored all who follow Uncle Mot’s lead and make a planned gift to the Program. Membership in the society is open to all alumni and friends who pledge their support by including the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund in their will, by making the Fund a beneficiary of their retirement plan, or by arranging for other types of deferred gifts.
There are more than thirty members in the John Motley Morehead Society. We are grateful for their commitment to continuing Uncle Mot’s legacy and to making a difference in the world.
