The Semifinalist Interview Experience

Each North Carolina semifinalist will be invited to interview with members of the Morehead-Cain regional selection committee in their region of the state. These interviews consist of two 20-minute conversations each with two members of the committee.

We do our best to ensure that all semifinalists interview in the location closest to their home.

Candidates will also be asked to participate in a group scenario. This could take the form of a group problem solving or simulation activity. Group scenarios are relaxed and informal; they do not require any advance thought or preparation.

The Regional Selection Committee

Regional Selection Committee members come from all parts of the state and from many walks of life. Most have served on Morehead-Cain selection committees in the past. Some, but not all, are Morehead-Cain and/or UNC alumni.

Tips and Advice for Semifinalists

  • Dress professionally.
  • It is preferred that you not bring materials (such as a resume or portfolio) with you to your interviews.
  • Take a minute to review your application so you’ll be prepared to answer questions about what’s included in it.
  • Relax and don’t over-prepare. Just be ready to talk about yourself and your experiences.
  • Parking will be available at the interview site. If someone is providing transportation for you, he or she may drop you off 20 minutes before your first interview and pick you up 20 minutes after your final interview.
