I just finished, and successfully defended, my Master’s thesis at MIT.
Never again will I bury my brain in polycyclic terpenoids, at least not until I myself am subjected to diagenesis as a result of sedimentary burial—hopefully after a full and happy life. There are enough champions of microbial lipids and, as Thoreau noted, of civilization.
So now I swap the laboratory and the microbial fats contained therein for wilder horizons without a petri dish in sight.
I yearn, madly, for the mountains.
